Previous Winners

The Blamey Stakes was first run in 1955 when it saw Prince Cortauld cross the line as the original race winner. At the time it was a Principal race over 10 furlongs, and did not change until Australia converted to the metric system when it officially became 1,600 metres in 1973. Seven years later the Blamey Stakes progressed to Group 2 stature. From its inaugural meet to 1980 the race was run at weight-for-age.
