Final Field For The Blamey Stakes

March 11th, 2010

Spectators will be in for a fantastic day of racing as Melbourne’s Flemington Racecourse hosts the Blamey Stakes Day, which will consist of 10 races, one of which is the Group 2 Blamey Stakes (1600m).

While the race usually headlines the day’s proceedings, due to the extreme weather seen in Melbourne last weekend, the illustrious Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m) and the Group 1 Australian Cup (2000m) will also dominate the schedule.

The Blamey Stakes will be the sixth race of the day, and will showcase nine of the top three-year-olds and over to compete for a share in the $300,000 prize money.

At around 3pm, the Blamey Stakes will kick off, and favourite to win – Rightfully Yours has drawn the second barrier, adding to the gelding’s advantage.

Running from the inside is Life To The Full. The five-year-old won the Listed Tattersall’s George Adams Plate (1600m) in February, and while the competition may be stronger here, the gelding has proved himself over the middle distance.

Out wide is Leica Larrikin, trained by Richard Freyer, and will need to cut the field early to be in with a chance of winning the Blamey Stakes.

Also taking place on Saturday at the Flemington Racecourse is the Group 1 Australian Guineas (1600m), the Group 1 Australian Cup (2000m) and the Group 3 Matron Stakes (1600m).
